Saskatchewan became a province in 1905, carved out of the Northwest Territories at the same time as Alberta. Regina is the provincial capital, historically the headquarters of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police training academy, while Saskatoon is the largest city. The province's economy is built on agriculture, especially wheat and other grains, alongside potash and uranium mining and, more recently, oil and gas. Saskatchewan is one of only two landlocked provinces (with Alberta) and is known for its vast, flat prairie landscape. The premier is Scott Moe.
