New Brunswick was one of the four founding provinces of Confederation in 1867, alongside Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. It is Canada's only officially bilingual province, with strong English- and French-speaking (Acadian) communities holding equal status in provincial institutions. Fredericton is the capital, while Moncton is the province's largest city and Saint John, the province's oldest incorporated city, its third-largest.
