Citizenship Test Prep for British Columbia

British Columbia joined Confederation in 1871, four years after the original four provinces, on the condition that a transcontinental railway would connect it to the rest of Canada, a promise fulfilled with the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885. Victoria, on Vancouver Island, is the provincial capital, while Vancouver, on the mainland, is by far the largest city and one of Canada's main gateways to the Pacific and to Asia. The province's economy rests on forestry, technology, film production, tourism, and trade through the Port of Vancouver. British Columbia's mountainous, coastal geography, including the Rockies and the Pacific rainforest, shapes both its economy and its identity. The current premier is David Eby.

What Discover Canada says about British Columbia

Discover Canada groups British Columbia in the West Coast region and calls it Canada's Pacific gateway, with the Port of Vancouver as the link to Asia and the Pacific. According to the guide, warm air from the Pacific gives the coast a temperate climate. The guide names forestry as a central industry, with lumber, newsprint and pulp and paper products making up about half of the goods produced in the province, and it also mentions mining, fishing, and the orchards and wine industry of the Okanagan Valley. It says the province has around 600 provincial parks and that, after English, Chinese and Punjabi are the most spoken languages in its cities. Victoria, the capital, is described as a tourist centre and the headquarters of the navy's Pacific fleet. In the history chapters, British Columbia joins Canada in 1871, European and Chinese workers build the Canadian Pacific Railway, and Japanese Canadians are forcibly relocated during the Second World War. The guide also names Terry Fox and Rick Hansen as British Columbians.

IRCC names one program for British Columbia: English Language Services for Adult (ELSA). If you completed ELSA after 2010, send a copy of your ELSA report card or an ELSA certificate showing CLB level 4 or higher. If you completed ELSA in 2008 or 2009, send your ELSA certificate showing CLB level 4 or higher. IRCC says it accepts results from ELSA only and will not accept a different course. The national options also remain open: education in English or French, an accepted language test, or LINC or CLIC training at CLB level 4 or higher in speaking and listening (certificate for training from November 1, 2012; for training from January 2008 to October 2012, you mark the box on the application).
